Triathalon!

I did my first triathlon yesterday- what a workout!
After watching my mom do all the training, and then complete her first triathlon last Summer, I figured I could complete one too.  (I even thought it might be a little easy but boy was I wrong!)  Sue, Asher, Natalie, Harrison, my mom and I all did it.

The swim was great- I love the feel of water on my skin, and I surprised myself by passing my family members ahead of me.  But I also floundered and gasped most of the way.

The bike went really well... Until I got lost.  I ended up at the finish line before someone told me I had to turn around, get back on course and repeat the loop I'd already done.  And then my chain locked up and I had to fix it.  That cost me a few minutes at least.  But I didn't give up.

The run was very difficult- my legs were exhausted and really had trouble running after that long  bike ride.  But I was able to run the whole time, except up hills, and just before the finish line.

And then I finished!  Hooray!

We all went back and crossed the finish line with mom and Sue (Sue also got lost on the run, not to mention didn't really train for this thing at all.)

Asher my grown up nephew did great, beat my time out of the water, even on a slow mountain bike.

Sprinting across the finish line is my favorite part :)

YAY MOM!!!  You're a rock star!

Nat and Harrison had already crossed the finish line by the time Todd (our photographer) arrived.  Nat got second place in her group!  Harrison got 7th, I think.  H beat N by 7 seconds- which happened exactly at the last tri they did together.  7 must be their lucky number.  Maybe they'll have 7 kids.  Or 7 dogs.

My support team:
Todd would have done this race with us but sprained his wrist and hasn't really been able to do anything for weeks.  :(

I finished in 1 hour 30 minutes and I think I was 9th in my division (darn getting lost and jammed chain!)   Better luck next time.

PS: After the race I took a 2 hour nap, went to bed early, woke up late today and took another 2 hour nap this afternoon.  My body feels like it was hit by a truck- this was a hard race!  Can I say again that my mom is super cool?!!

Lake Powell

This was a GREAT trip!!  It's nice to have a kitchen and shower while staying on Lake Powell.  Good friends, good fun, gorgeous scenery!

There were tons of spiders!
