We visited La Fortuna, which has the most amazing views of Arenal Volcano. (But the town doesn't have much else to offer in my opinion.) The Volcano had just erupted so powerfully the day before that the surrounding parks were evacuated. We were lucky to catch it on a cloud-free day, which made for great photos!

| We saw the lava flow at night. With binoculars we watched 20 - 30 foot wide boulders tearing down the mountain, bouncing sometimes hundreds of feet at a time, and exploding into orange lava every time they hit the mountain. AMAZING! |
